In and around nelspruit

Mpumpalanga is one of the one most beautiful provinces in South Africa and Nelspruit, the provincial capital, is an historical gem surrounded by abundant wildlife.

There are wide variety of attractions for visitors; we have provided a few suggestions for activities on the Rosemary Cottage farm and in the city and surrounds.

Horses at Kaapsehoop

Kaapschehoop
This historic mining village is a quaint and eccentric place and is famous for its wild horses. A 40 min drive from Rosemary Cottage this is a unique place, loved by locals and visitors alike.

The Kruger Park
This world famous game reserve is less than an hour's drive from Rosemary Cottage, making the cottage and ideal stopover for a visit to this exquisite game reserve.

Barberton Valley
The historic town of Barberton is about 60 mins away from the cottage and offers a variety of attractions including nature reserves, hiking and horse trails and town itself.

Sabie
This little town, 80km from Rosemary Cottage, is a worthwhile destination for a day trip. There is excellent trout fishing, the Big Swing, bungi jumping and kloofing, horse trails, hiking and birding. Close by are Pilgrims' Rest, Graskop, Bourke's Luck and God's Window.

Dullstroom
A fly fishing haven, situated on important trout routes, Dullstroom is a picturesque town with much to offer the whole family.

Sudwala Caves and Dinosaur Park
A must see for any visitor to Mpumalanga and a 30 minute drive from Rosemary Cottage, these majestic caves, a nominated world heritage site, are the oldest known caves in the world.

Nelspruit Botanical Gardens
This 159 hectare space is a haven for visitors and locals alike and features endemic plants, a rain forest and the cascades.

Jane Goodall Institute
Chimpanzee Eden is on the R40 (approx 30 minutes from Rosemary Cottage) where you can see and interact with chimpanzees; there are guided tours three times a day.

Great shopping experiences are available at the variety of shopping malls and centres in Nelspruit, including Crossings, Riverside Mall and the Grove with Ilanga, a new mall opening along the N4 in March 2010. Tours of the lowveld can also be organised.
